Pinnacol’s employee giving, volunteering and charitable grants supported hundreds of Colorado nonprofits.

Denver, Feb. 5, 2018 — Pinnacol Assurance’s commitment to the community reached new heights in 2017, beating already impressive records for employee volunteering, charitable grants and charitable contributions. With customers in all 64 Colorado counties, they spread their efforts across the state to help nonprofits large and small.

  • Through the employee-led Pinnacol in Action program, 80 percent of Pinnacol’s 600+ employees volunteered with a nonprofit in 2017, spending a record-breaking 6,602 hours serving the community. Participation in the program is voluntary, and employees are free to lend a hand to organizations that are meaningful to them. They shared their time and talents with groups like the Denver Health Foundation, Food Bank of the Rockies and the National Sports Center for the Disabled.
  • Pinnacol awarded grants totaling nearly $550,000 to 32 Colorado nonprofits to help keep its policyholders’ employees safe and healthy and ensure Colorado has a robust business climate and the workforce it needs. The grants were awarded to organizations from border to border, including The Colorado School of Public Health, Sedgwick County Economic Development and the Spinal Cord Injury Recovery Project.
  • As part of its grantmaking, Pinnacol also launched a pilot program in 2017 to provide financial assistance to nonprofit policyholders that wish to improve workplace safety by purchasing equipment or implementing processes to reduce employee exposure to health and safety hazards. In the initial round of grants, Pinnacol awarded more than $71,000 to nonprofits like Laradon Hall Society and Family Health West in Fruita.
  • Founded in 2000, the Pinnacol Foundation awarded more than $400,000 in scholarships last year to children whose parents were seriously injured or killed in a work-related accident in Colorado, whether or not Pinnacol was the insurer on the claim. The students, 112 in total, applied their scholarships to traditional two- and four-year college programs as well as accredited vocational institutions. Since the Foundation was created in 2000, it has awarded $4.5 million to nearly 500 students in every corner of the state.
  • During Pinnacol’s weeklong Employee Giving Campaign, more than 80 percent of the company’s employees made donations totaling $127,239, an eight percent increase from 2016. When combined with a company match, this meant donations of nearly $250,000 to 239 Colorado nonprofit organizations. Some of the top recipients included Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Colorado and the Dumb Friends League, as well as the Pinnacol Foundation.

“Whether reaching into their pockets or reaching for their work gloves, Pinnacol and its employees touched thousands of lives last year,” said Edie Sonn, vice president of public affairs and communications. “Our employees’ personal passions combined with Pinnacol’s vision of caring opened up an unprecedented outpouring of service in 2017.”
