Laurence Fink, chairman and CEO or BlackRock, sent his annual letter to over 1,000 CEOs across the globe Tuesday (January 23, 2018). As one of the most influential money managers in the world, Fink had a simple message: Simply posting good financial returns is no longer enough. You must have a positive impact on society, too.
“Society is demanding that companies, both public and private, serve a social purpose,” Fink wrote in his letter, which was first reported by the New York Times. “To prosper over time, every company must not only deliver financial performance, but also show how it makes a positive contribution to society.”
The letter addressed the topic, that executive will be expected to answer questions around community involvement, long-term plans, diversive workforce and training, and how they might use money saved from the recent tax reform.
